Muslim fiction is a growing genre in American literature. Muslim women from diverse backgrounds are crafting an impressive body of literature that deserves more attention. The works of American Muslim authors represent important artifacts of the emerging Islamic-American cultural construct. The written works of American Muslims serve as potential venues to better acquaint the broader society about multifaceted Muslim experiences. Such narratives also provide spaces for Muslims to articulate numerous cultural standpoints, even those outside of a Muslim context.
Many of the books reviewed will be from often ignored African-American, Euro-American, and Latino-American Muslim women writers. The novels of Muslim women belonging to these American Muslim subcultures will shed some light on their unique identities and provide some nuance to those from another culture.
Although the focus is on native-born African-American, Euro-American, and Latina-American Muslim women writers, there is space to review novels from American Muslim women of any background.
